A while ago, a group of players launched an idea for Riot Games: that the study took a one-year pause, without launching a new champion, to focus on updating the oldest. It must be said that in more than a decade League of Legends has evolved enormously, and some champion skill kits, but also their appearances, have been completely obsolete.
The goal is not to make the oldest champions more complex, but give them a small face wash contributing a little more modernity and more tools to their game. It is still important to have characters that are easy to learn for beginners, and maintain a scale of uniform difficulty for all champions. Although this idea liked, it is not the case of Riot Games. In fact, the study has confirmed that the number of REWORKS will not increase in the coming years.
will not upload the rhythm
Rioters often take the trouble to interact with the community, whether on Twitter or Reddit. The chief designer Bryan Rotaxes Salvatore has answered some questions and suggestions on a possible increase in the amount of total reworks produced each year, and no, there will be no more for two main reasons: not disappointing the players who appreciate The champion as it is, and also for the total cost of a REWORK.
_ To be clear, we do not hate full Reworks. However, we face two problems that limit the amount of which we can / we want to do at the same time: _
_1. They cause confusion among players who play with these champions. Even minor changes can make players stop using them. Everyone wants more renovations of champions that do not play, but not many people want the gameplay of their Main to change significantly. We must bear in mind that, although a well-executed redesign brings something great to the game, it also takes something that someone loved it.
_2. They are more expensive than creating a new champion due to the update of all aspects. And yes, we appreciate a peak in the sales of these skins ... but not as much as in the new champions. Much of that cost is related to the artistic aspect, so doing updates only visuals does not help us much.
I would like to make more reworks than we did for 2021, but it is not likely that the rate increases drastically in the near future.
small reminder of reworks
There are several levels within Riot Games ReWorks for League of Legends:
- Gameplay update : It aims to modify the gameplay of the champion and only the gameplay of it (example: reworks of assassins, magicians or even colossos)
- Visual update : aims to modify the appearance of a champion, change your splash-arts because they are too old / outdated or effects on spells (Example: Splash-Arts of Nidalee, Morgan Spells in 2015)
- Visual and Game Update (VGU) : This is the highest level of REWORK, aims to change everything in the champion to do it almost new (Example: Dr. World)
This year we will only have a Rework, that of Dr. World already released. For the next you will have to wait until 2022. It will be that of the guardian of the spirits, Udyr, who won the survey presented to the community by Riot at the beginning of the year.
